Lessons in life from a Tree

One of the greatest things about being a farmer is the life lessons you learn along the way. This spring brought with it a reminder, an affirmation of sorts. Be your own tree.

The orchard is in full bloom. Things are moving along as they should. The trees seem to be doing things as God intended. Blooming...
Flowering...
Starting the cycle for 2008. Then there's this tree. See the Pawnee on the right. It's taking it's sweet time blooming. It wasn't ready when everyone else was and decided to do it's own thing. That's cool.

Sometimes that's what we have to do too. I wasn't ready to send my oldest to school when everyone else was and so we decided to do our own thing. It's not an easy thing to do... go your own way. Do your own thing. But you have to look into yourself and trust that you are doing what is best for you and your family.

That's what this tree is doing. I bet, come harvest, we'll see some good pecans on the Pawnees. They are saving their energy and pacing themselves. They'll produce some good nuts.

Hopefully, so will we.

I think we all feel the same about our kiddos. Hopefully they will turn out producing something great!
